Iberian Adventure - part 7

Coimbra is, above all else, a university town. The University sits high up on the plateau overlooking the town and the river, and uses a beautiful ex royal palace as its base.

To get to it, you have to climb up steep and narrow passageways and staircases, each showing little architectural gem around each corner. Very charming.

The town itself is is also pleasant, with all the usual squares, bars, shops and restaurants. Although we didn't see any, Coimbra is famous for Fado music, which is classical guitar based and intense.

Ericeira, on the other hand, is completely different. Situated on the coast, with pretty beaches between rocky headlands, it started life as a simple fishing village. Then the surfers discovered it and it really boomed.

It is now a place full of the young and beautiful (so Wallace and I fitted in nicely), but still has charm and is very welcoming. I liked it here.

Next stop on the journey is Porto Covo, again on the coast.
